Back in the early 70s a coworker took a trip to Ireland during what turned out to be a record heatwave. On the radio there had to keep warning men not to wear their tweed suits inside or outside for the duration. He saw men passing out from the heat.
One of the things I find really weird about the past is how, for several generations, pretty much every man in English society was walking around in a full suit, no matter what the weather was, or what he did for work.
