Star Wars was painted. Almost impossible to believe that most of the epic widescreen sci-fi images in the first 3 Star Wars films were done by 3 "Matte painting" artists. These are fake sets made with plexiglass and oil paint. Even the 100s of storm troopers were painted.pic.twitter.com/ifP4vtqTd8

The Way to Hell, by Alfred Kubin (1877-1959), painted ten years before the first World War. Kubin attempted suicide on his mother's grave in 1896 & had a nervous breakdown after a period in the Austrian army - he then discovered Art. Franz Kafka was an admirer of his dark images.pic.twitter.com/e6sXd276Cf

The Leonardo Da Vinci 500 year retrospective at the Louvre, Paris reveals a conflicted, frustrated Leonardo. A man who hated completing paintings & only felt free when conducting research into the hidden (mathematical, scientific, Platonic) rules beneath the surface of the world.pic.twitter.com/ccYQhP79D5

It's going to take a brave, visionary director to reboot DUNE after the critical and box office flop that was David Lynch's only turkey. Denis Villeneuve (Bladerunner 2049) is that director and Dune is set for release in Dec 2020. Some production art of the Fremen has emerged.pic.twitter.com/CugH5cZIQc

Dystopia exists. The abandoned apartment block- Ponte City, Johannesberg. In the 1990s gangs moved in & it became a symbol of crime & urban decay. The core filled with refuse 5 stories high. In the 1990s there were plans to turn the building into a highrise prison. Thx@Oniropolispic.twitter.com/WZdZQzpsHq

The Royal Portuguese Reading Room, built in Rio de Janeiro in 1880-87, is an extraordinary repository of Portuguese literature and history. Over 350,000 volumes, and you can visit there. Looks like it might help if you’re tall… https://www.realgabinete.com.br/ pic.twitter.com/DRtLTStnhV

In the 1890s Burne-Jones had so many unfinished paintings that he felt overwhelmed. He drew a caricature of himself - "Unpainted Masterpieces" - looking forlorn & surrounded by vast empty canvases. His son Philip also painted his sorry state. He died with many artworks unfinishedpic.twitter.com/mniozldj1a

Sketchy. The preparatory sketches of Pre Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones(1833-1898) are impressive artworks in themselves. Jones did many sketches & feared finishing artworks. He was "a highly strung nervous man who, upon completion of a major work, would suffer a nervous collapse"pic.twitter.com/EtUVYf9SsM

Dreams by Henry Fuseli (1741-1825). Obsessed with dreams & the supernatural, his style influenced many younger British artists, including William Blake. In the 20th century, Fuseli's nightmare paintings were interpreted as anticipating Freudian ideas about the subconscious.pic.twitter.com/6FqLVoafUc

This scene from Joker won't leave me alone. As one of the comments says "This is the scene where Arthur Fleck starts to die, and Joker begins to be born". It was created through improvisation to the brilliant, powerful music of Hildur Guðnadóttirhttps://bit.ly/37GqA9e

#FairyTaleTuesday RULALKAS are the Slavic version of Greek sirens. They inhabit lakes&rivers & appear as beautiful young women w/long pale green hair. They can be seen dancing together under the moon & calling out to young men, luring them to the water & drowning them.#folklorepic.twitter.com/4n6j7ZFyN3

The dark photographic art of Sarah Moon (1941-). In the 1970s "She successfully captured the fashionable atmosphere of London after the "swinging sixties", working closely with Barbara Hulanicki, who had launched Biba." Her art photography since then is deep and haunting.pic.twitter.com/bo5yVCjS97

The "father of camouflage" was American artist Abbott Thayer (1849 – 1921). He designed the first military camouflage & was obsessed with the idea of naturally occurring animal camouflage. A theory he took too far by claiming that Flamingoes mimicked sunsets.pic.twitter.com/wkhI92u2RQ

A beautiful gift from a good friend and lover of cinematic art. Tarkovsky now overlooks my books, and has turned them into The Zone. You know who you are dear fellow. Many thanks. xpic.twitter.com/gRF81vDaiL

#HolocaustMemorialDay. When Samuel Bak's (1933) home town in Poland was occupied by the Germans in 1941, Bak & his family were moved into the ghetto. At the age of 9, he held his first exhibition inside the Ghetto. He & his mother were the only survivors from his family.pic.twitter.com/oKUezHvoAC

In the 1880s, as the tuberculosis & depression of Abbott Thayer's wife increased, he began painting their children as transcendental spirits. After she died, he made many paintings of his daughter as a Madonna-like figure watching over her siblings. Over years, they age together.pic.twitter.com/nGpIprLMji
