Today, more than an other day, we should reflect on the true work of Dr. King, not the sanitized version fed to us in history books. “True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.” Dr. King

Challenge: scroll through your TL and look tweets documenting rich thinking, speaking, or actions by a woman from a marginalized/underrepresented group. If it takes longer than 5 min, unfollow 6 and follow 7 who represent groups you don't know much about.

The charter community was angered by the recommendation in "Stymied by Segregation" to close charter schools that are violating GS 115C-218.45.(e). To those angered by that suggestion: What other laws should we allow schools to disregard?

What do children learn about what we think of them if we give them such materials? What do teachers come to understand about the way our profession is valued if these are the materials we have to use?

    6. I would love to learn more about how you plan on "transforming our schools" but I can't get past your noise.

    5. And what are your solutions? More SROs? Can we talk about the crimilization about our youth, especially the disproportionate rate among our students of color. Let's not even talk about arming teachers or school staff.

    4. Maybe you have talked to those of us "in the trenches" but the educators and students I talk to feel safe in our schools. But again talking about school safety brings in unnecessary fears (let alone the dog-whistle politics inherent in the message)

    1. Right away, what you're telling me is that you let the tail wag the dog. You're taking an issue that has captivated the country and using it to elevate your platorm (which by the I would love to hear more about, but again, all you're doing is screaming school safety).
