Ok wait...is it maybe possible he was joking? I honestly don’t think he was...but before we go much further...was he? ...I don’t think he was...
-
Search for the longer video on YouTube (“Trudeau peoplekind”). It didn’t appear like he was joking. The audience claps in agreement with him.
-
The girl was going on and on about her church’s belief in God The Mother without getting to an actual question. When she said “mankind”, Trudeau played off that and quipped about preferring “peoplekind”. An obvious joke.
-
He wasn’t joking - he abruptly interrupted her and scolded her with a very stern tone.
-
#actuallyno he didn't. it was CLEARLY a light-hearted comment. & the clip cuts of INSTANTLY after that, so you can't see the crowd's reaction, or hear the rest of what he had to say. that's called "taking things out of context"#nowyouknow ^__^! -
It looked like he was just pandering. In the video I saw, it didn't seem like a joke, and it didn't seem like a stern correction. It seemed like it was a self-righteous, smug, self aggrandizement.
-
also worth noting "the video you saw" is edited (by CONservative commentors) to cut off RIGHT AFTER the quote. no reaction, no follow-up. if i get to do that with ppl, i can make ANYBODY look bad! even donald trump!? :O
-
I don’t know what it was. Who cares.

Pretty clueless to interrupt. And "peoplekind" is horrible, "humanity" is a perfectly good word - which he could simply have used in his answer.
-
But it has the word 'man' in it.. so um hupeopleity maybe???
-
-
I love this

Actual mansplaining right here tho??
-
Hahahah. It’s not even a real phenomenon but in this case literally yes
-
It is real tho. How can it be not real but at the same time exist in “this case”?
-
It does exist, but it's called "condescension" and everyone is capable of it.
-
Literally. People already acknowledge the sexist and misogynistic dynamic(s) men uphold in discourse and in conversation in general already, by just calling them out on being condescending. This is my perspective though
-
Yeah but condescension is general, mansplaining I supposed to refer to a product of men’s socialization that makes some of them feel qualified and needed to explain even the most basic things to women. It’s not just condescension, its refers to the specific gender dynamics
-
Yeah but let's not make up words when there are other perfectly adequate ones.
-
It’s been added to the oxford dictionary, to clearly ppl feel there’s a need.
