I’ve asked the City Attorney to not spend city resources prosecuting protest-related charges. I’ll update when I have a response to share.

Today, the City Council voted to approve our in it’s entirety! It’s a huge step forward that funds mental health response & violence prevention, shifts civilian roles to departments that can better support the work, and improves accountability.

Thanks to everyone who shared their perspective and experience in this rapidly evolving market. There's more work to do in the rule-making and fee-setting process ahead, but today's work fixed a lot of the issues that revealed themselves in extensive stakeholder discussion.

I authored an ordinance to better regulate short term rentals, which just passed the Council unanimously. The new law allows us to intervene in problem rentals, and preserves more housing as housing, rather than letting too much be converted to STR.

I believe we should respond to mental health emergencies with mental health professionals. Mental health professionals agree, and wrote in support of our proposal.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to testify on the budget. Its after midnight and we’re still going! It’s important for community to be heard and hear each other. As a policy maker, I value these hearings, even if they can feel a little distant (especially online).

This excellent thread from my colleague Cam Gordon expresses a lot of the reasons I believe in this proposal, and the reasons I believe it will be met with a lot of support in community and on the Council.

The freeway is still blocked as arrests continue. It would have been cleared hours ago if the March had been allowed to continue.

I’m here to observe tonight with a few of my colleagues. Caught up with one bus load of people who had been cited, loaded on a bus and dropped off in Stadium Village. They were mostly OK, understandably angry, and bewildered by the escalation.

I cannot see what good tonight’s arrests of peaceful protesters can accomplish. I can see plenty of harm. Adamantly disagree with the decision to trap and arrest demonstrators tonight. It’s the last thing our community needed tonight.
