Three years since COVID-19 declared a global health emergency. In those 3 years we've also seen...the biggest outbreak of Ross River virus on the east coast, introduction of Japanese encephalitis, and now resurgence of Murray Valley encephalitis! abc.net.au/news/2023-02-0 🧵

A second case of Japanese encephalitis virus has been reported in Victoria for this season. Mosquito-borne viruses are circulating widely in mosquito populations at the moment. Do your best to avoid mosquito bites and reduce your risks of serious disease

This summer, the rains and flooding continued and while authorities were on alert for Japanese encephalitis virus again, Murray Valley encephalitis virus (a serious human health threat) became widespread in mosquitoes across SE Australia

Singapore, appears to be track to break its previous years of the highest number of #dengue cases, is reporting an 24% increase in the densities of Aedes aegypti. The 4 dengue viruses co-circulate, with each one replacing the other, driving outbreaks.

Today is #WorldNTDDay. In Guatemala, 10 of the Neglected Tropical Diseases are present. I work in leishmaniasis, a fascinating disease. We are updating the Leishmania species present in the country as well as sand flies and identifying possible vectors. There’s much more to do!
