Furloughs have been granted for a wedding, a bday party, a visit in the hospital, and here is Reina Mae Nasino, a human rights activist, in handcuffs, grieving while surrounded by police as if she was a high profile, hardened criminal. She couldn’t even wipe her tears properly.

Don’t you dare tell me dura lex, sed lex when the Supreme Court granted Gloria Arroyo a 12-day Christmas and New Year furlough in 2015. In the Philippines, the law is only harsh to the poor and the disenfranchised.
