Would you consider stand up as a form of storytelling? Oral tradition? Most are awful but some are captivating.
The best ones are something else -- akin to storytellers or lecturers or wandering philosophers -- as I was discussing with @Young_Swatty. I suppose that's a bit of a swerve, "changing the definition" and all, but they're apples and oranges w/ the bulk of the "stand-ups"
