skimmed a piece abt the "south park legacy," saw it contains the same bits all these cultural commentaries do: 1) "it's impossible to be neutral in 2020 due to all the evil" 2) (author grapples with having liked the show/still liking it) 3) "show was good but maybe time 2 go?"

these pieces appear by the dozens, usually about shows like "it's always sunny" and "south park." why write them at all? the quiet part that's being said loud here is "everyone is waiting until these shows are gone, even me, and I liked the show...well not really"

many authors of these pieces are threading various needles, including mandatory stuff (like the "trump bad man" material at the beginning of the "letter") while trying to hint that "no i really like this show" while signaling that "well the show is bad, actually." fascinating.

since i just do other stuff, i try to prioritize only writing things for money in which i know these gymnastics won't be needed. i ignore the rest of it. "let the dead bury the dead" is the spirit of the age, in more ways than one

i don't mind people getting paid for any work, or for doing the work, but this isn't the work i'll do. i'm not the mouth for these ears

it's interesting because a lot of people are threading these needles right now, professionally or socially or whatever, but most of them will end up gone baby gone after the string or perhaps even "a plank in reason" breaks. again, interesting. "a fit subject for study"

The best of both worlds. You can do both, all at once. Conspicuous and virtuous consumption. Gold from lead. The atom split. The purchase history on your bank statement can either be a trail of tears or the road to Oz.
