binky added,
all correct from experience
I went to get a doctorate in biology and I’ve spent half the time learning graphic design for proposals and publications.
my time spent working twd the history phd was enjoyable, because my advisors were these old-school types, but i should've taken the dislike i engendered in other grad students a bit more seriously, as well as the house mouse/gossipy they seemed to view as "professional training"
when i started the tenure track job, i was convinced i could still do whatever and make it work, push back vocally and often in the mainstream media about idiotic initiatives (online learning, grading, "compressing" courses into an "experiential degree plan," you name it)
