my dad used to choke me out for fun, to "get comfortable with it." softness is the sort of bug-light concept that lures bugmen into glue traps

there's walking into the glue trap, volunteering to go to the glue factory, and trying to resist those two things - tactically if not heroically, almost never heroically - until your end is known. there's little else to life

I think there's something to it as a privately-held value. But if your kindness creates the overwhelming appearance of kindness, you are not listening to your conscience.

Not least of all because you can look around, or read any book for children, and find plentiful examples of thoroughly self-interested flatterers. If that's all you can bring to the table, I guess it's the work. But I won't be here abetting a fraud.
