One big change in corporate HR materials is that the work/not-at-work division has almost completely vanished. There are of course federal laws that apply solely to the former, and those are monitored carefully lest a lawsuit ensues, but those are an afterthought now

This is all part of the HRification of America. Heck, you can be fired for stuff you did in public years ago, even if you worked for somebody else. Even if your current employer didn’t exist when you offended contemporary mores.

It's really amazing. Private, inescapable justice is on the way but the kids don't mind because they're excited to have internships as hall monitors in the new regime

I use slack strictly for work and work approved communication, if I need to communicate with someone either about non work stuff or esp shittalk about work, I text them. Seems obvious but people can be goofy

had my three-month check-in call yesterday with my assigned stooge from HR and about halfway through our ‘friendly chat’ it occurred to me that she was just probing me for any incidents of harassment/hazing and use of unauthorized/unofficial messaging platforms by my coworkers
