There's probably a thinkpiece to be had in how he was supposedly a left winger but also a UK jingoist when he needed to be to put one over on Americans.
He was also one of the first mainstream comics writers to use LGBT characters but I don't know what it was w/ his work...it always seemed a little cynical and self serving to me
