I've been involved in hiring work -- explicitly so for the past two years, before that on academic committees -- and I can tell you: 1) some jobs a specific proficiency (pilot, electrician, pro illustrator, etc.) 2) for the rest you can hire anyone (manager, most lib arts profs)
Within the category of #1, you can further subdivide it: -- people who have to physically be at the site where the job is and fine-motion automation just can't be done (expensive!!!) -- people who can be very remote (top tier illustrator in Makati City)
For category #2, you can hire anyone you want, for any reason, or no one. The elite decision makers know this, and deep down have great contempt for these roles, since the key things they produce can't truly be measured. Of course a prof can be "brilliant," but that's meaningless
