Somewhat relatedly, blurbs have not really evolved since then, have they? Or maybe some small changes on the margins? It's a special craft.
when i was working with my agent on my one and only book proposal (it died on the vine), the second section consisted of a listing of details about the size of my "following" and the names of possible blurb contributors

Oh yeah, marketing LOVES fat lists like that, it reduces anxiety. A book's editor is also likely to pull in some favors if possible to get some bitchin blurbs
