“Defund the police and spend the money on poverty reduction” is a reasonable and trackable demand whereas “abolish the police” is just gonna see a bunch of armed police depts renamed “intersectional community intervention departments” and a declaration of mission accomplished

Yep Abolition-> Private Security Reform -> Unelected federal advisor bureaucrats Right now, the mayors and city councils (that progressives and BLM like) are in charge of the police. This is creating an uncomfortable responsibility problem, the mayors/cc want to give this away.

The point is that none of these people care about the shit they are talking about. Yes, there are huge contradictions built up with the way we have structured the cities. I don't want to put millions in jail so people in manhattan can stroll around buying chai lattes at 2AM

I don’t think folks like Jim Clyburn are off the mark when calling for specific reforms as supported by their constituents. I don’t believe the situation in the short term is insoluble in a practical sense, but I also remind people of the role of police under capitalism
