Oh, there are "grifts" out there, such as using your nonprofit to launder a million bucks in contributor money, etc. But this same term is frequently applied to someone who gets $500 for a thumbsucking wet fart of an opinion piece in the Atlantic

The first one is surely a phony, but the second one...who can say, absent more information? A lot of folks mean well, even if they mean nothing, and they're trying to share what they believe are the "correct thoughts," although they're incapable of thinking them on their own
