That's a great essay. I think there's an interesting trend that counters "neither made their occupations seem like a fun way to pass the time." There's a subset of "Fitness Influencers" that get famous or maintain fame by often just doing random strong Fun things. Like Jujimufu.

People who are basically commercializing or making famous what you sort of arrive at in the end of your piece-- doing hard things bc it's fun, it's new, not to achieve a marginally better lift
