People are talking publishing advances and royalties right now, and let me tell you, I've had an agent for a few years and have seen 0 dollars from it. I do believe they sold books by some people I recommended, though. That's the work and the tea.

I don’t think I agree with you on that. I know plenty in different fields who exaggerate how much they make when possible. I’ve always chalked it up to human nature. Advances are unique to writing, but writers by and large are an incredibly petty, insecure lot.

I don’t disagree with you there. I suppose the others I’m thinking of were simply the assortment of people who have shared contact information and pay rates with me (a very biased sample).
