how much must you love this mediocre thing to go through all these gymnastics to justify your love of such a run of the mill text? and yet: this is the way of all takes, the cognitive dissonance of the takes. We Can Do Both. "Yes And," Not "No But" or "Well Actually?"
the point, of course, isn't that you shouldn't read authors whose views you don't agree with -- you should -- but rather that it's fascinating to see people agonizing so much over this particular series, which could be replaced in your "canon" with literally any other YA series

People need to have real world communities to engage with. In a fandom, you can find a niche of people who feel the same way you do and encounter very little friction. Real life is not like that, but it's also much more fulfilling
