How does NPR train hosts to have vocal fry? Uptalk? Speech classes generally train people to not have it. An interesting mystery.

I’m sure it’s practiced/affected in some cases —
@tereseaimee cited D Denvir as an example. But yes, when I did speech and legal forensics and then later taught those courses, I was trained in/trained students in speaking as slowly as possible, from the diaphragm, etc. - 2 more replies
