"Prof X has this under control, they're doing the essential work" is great if the book is $70 and the articles are paywalled/unreadable. It's a more subtle strat than demanding you "phonebank" or "organize" as far as doing the work goes(they dont even need to have read the stuff)

Telling people to do the work that they don't actually do themselves and that the essential worker isn't even doing is the tea. I've encountered every variation on this, and I've done all the work they demand we do...this is by far the best way to reply

I've been told to read many of these essay collections. They're truly ephemeral, 150 pages that have less substance than an RL Stine story, but for 2-3 weeks, in certain circles at least, they're required reading. 'You mean you haven't read In Defense of Apathy?' Nope.

Essential, necessary, urgent — adjectives for a dithering time. I know it’s just book selling copy but those words always put me off

If you read only one book about X extremely online political-cultural topic, make it this one
