it is remarkable how bad most "literary" memoirs are, given how so many of them are completely made up

The best ever. Did the work every day. Best thing about him is most of his writing was just churning out hackwork to pay the bills (he'd 'review' books without reading beyond the jacket then sell the copies to the bookstore), yet somehow everything he wrote was incredible.
The central conflict in The Wanting Seed is...astonishing, really. I can't wait for this "pelphase" to end
