Honestly if someone said to me "yes my parents were involved in a monstrous crime but I still love them as my parents," OK, I could let that go. But "actually they were doing a public service," come on.
i'm here for it. for example, my mom got in the newspaper for some naughty crimes, and really, it would've been easy to re-frame it after the fact by saying the only thing she did wrong was not paying those kids the fair market value of their emotional labor
