I wonder how a lot of zombie mall chains like that have survived. Seems like the people who shopped at them in the 80s-90s are either richer or poorer now.
J.C. Penney's is on the cusp but may survive a few more years due to owning many of their sites...turns out "Land" is something they're "Not Making More Of"

Penny’s is the only place at my local mall where I actually see people buying big armloads of clothes. I know they were nearly driven into the ditch by their psycho former CEO, but I’d say they at least have a chance.
