When people say they were fond of some variant of 80s wrestling, chances are they were watching it. When they express fondness for the "attitude era," a lot of times they're expressing fondness for the "dirt sheet gossip": swerves, backstage scandals, etc.

Aren't most people just most fond of the period they were young/adolescent in? Like if you were in puberty in the late 90s you are going to react a certain way to shattered glass, "jabroni," or a sock with a face drawn in sharpie.

The 90s were an interesting time because the wrestling viewership was mostly grown-up 80s viewers, hence the shift to an "R" rating, more Jerry Springer-esque content, etc. And those fans were interested in backstage antics.
