There's this very strident little nook within academia out of which people will emerge to tell you that single-term limits for all elected offices (never mind that it won't happen) will lead to total lobbyist capture (never mind that this has already happened).

I think single-term limits would lead to greater randomness and more useful "to heck w/ this, I'm doing it" as opposed to perma-campaigning. Also, choosing politicians by random draw, as with juries, would also be preferable to the hiring of "professionals"

I grew up with a version of that. You voted for the same rust belt Democrat over and over, because, as my stepdad would say, "who the hell else you gonna vote for?" It worked as well as anything else, but with less fuss
