social media, twitter in particular, really privileges some job losses over others. you can lay off a dozen wrestlers or twenty journalists and that'll go viral in seconds, but i can work to demobilize 300+ people and it's not even worth a post

wrestlers should definitely unionize, as should all journalists, and all job losses are bad, but there are definitely some fields where the layoffs are en masse, 1980s-steel crash style, yet anonymous (and even that got amazing coverage, given the national obsession with steel )

that said, despite being personally involved with loads of jobs that are coming and going, my "eye" is constantly drawn to these micro-struggles, like a talk show laying off five writers, etc.
