If history has taught me one thing, it's that historians with tenured gigs usually (if secretly) love the status quo and no longer have anything to learn from history. They represent the "end of history," since they have reached its pinnacle (teaching history for life*)

Same is true with tenured philosophy profs, though a lot of them love to posture as good leftists - until it comes time for the custodial staff to unionize.
