Why would a capitalist's long term interests be with the workers?
See another reply I made on this feed. I don't think it's a useful term, 99% of the time. Some middle class and upper middle class may align with the working class for legitimate reasons, but there are many in their ranks who can't (a full-time public prosecutor, a wonk, etc.)

even if some workers do benefit to some extent via that pacification, the thrust is towards winning whatever high-level game they (the capitalist power players) are involved in. there's no betrayal here, merely a different game btwn two sides of the same coin
