"Fifty miles" is an exaggeration, but I'm skeptical of the value of bulk cardio. Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson did fine with four to five miles of daily roadwork plus hrs of sparring in their training camps. The neoliberal disciplining of the marathon/triathlon body is problematic

Taking a ten or even twenty mile hike can be enjoyable, but training for a sherpa run up Everest -- one of many neoliberal end goals, unless they're green and prefer a "cleaner" mountain -- is troubling. They train for everything as if it were a job w/ merit promotions.

1) neolib worldview sucks ass, agreed (lol) 2) sustained cardio DNE bulk cardio; you initially put forward 'sprint motions' as implied ideal, now you've moved the posts to 'ten mile hike'/'five or six miles of roadwork', which are both sustained cardio - so again, we agree!

Replying to @discourse_doer @MoustacheClubUS and
3) any form of training taken to the extreme is problematic. Resistance training is great but Max effort training (the ür-Work) has issues with blood pressure/stroke risk, for example. Pretty sure we agree on this, too.

4 (lol me threading)) as #3 indicates, when you find a thing that works, it's great. So maybe some of the Sherparun trainers just like it, and don't deserve eternal scorn? Anyway.

My own feelings about it are lost in the mists of history

The mists of history are but the sweaty vapor rising from the backs of those doing the work.
