Much of the American Left is literally allergic to winning. When they come close to doing something which could help us win something they will revert to their contrarian instincts and self-sabotage the movement. Until we overcome this tendency we are destined to lose.

Look at the actual right-wing. They don't compromise very much at all. They Fucking double down and refuse to compromise until their opponents compromise. Hell, many Libertarians used to read Lenin for this reason. They hated his Marxism, but loved his political strategy.
When I was a wee lad, and my dad used to throttle my mom, and my brother intervened to calm him down, we'd spend a few weeks thinking this is "ok, this is normal, we've moved dad to the left on mom," he's calming down. And then... Some people don't learn this until much later
