In the old days you wrote something one month, it was published the next, and no one cared about anyone else. Friend groups contained one “writer” and no none cared what he wrote. Meanwhile the writing community was more of a guild & had an ethic of disputation leading to truth
@MUGGER1955 knew and hated the NYC cliques of the old days, though. His advice to not associate with certain media groups is still sound
