Been bouncing this thought around in my head: China lying about their data is the one variable that makes all other data points questionable. Puts us 2-3 months behind on research and solutions. It's literally the scariest variable, far scarier than the numbers we see now even.
If we don't know the extent of fatalities there -- and we know the virus is brutal even on some healthy adults -- we have no idea what's going on. Same going with rate of spread, etc. They have provided research about their treatment efforts, but who can say what went down
No one can possibly know. It's what scares me every time my mom or girlfriend sends me an article about a young person dying. Is this because it's able to attack younger people or just unfortunate data points, but anecdotal in the reality of the numbers.
I mean, the western numbers suggest a fairly high hospitalization rate and primarily old timer deaths (with "preexisting conditions") but there's been some noise about genetic susceptibility etc. We have much much more and better data about trivial nonsense like sports
