A very well-written piece. While I’ve never thought Benoit’s work needed to be “celebrated” again, I’ve felt like it was ok to point out this was a once-redeemable and decent person, which made it an even sadder tragedy.(1)

Replying to @twobblermangrov @MoustacheClubUS and
(2)I know ppl often try to rationalize how a person became a murderer, so I don’t want to make too many excuses for him. It just always seemed like this was a complex story, and the documentary sort of confirms that, while still leaving unanswered questions.

His last half-decade, at least, seems, to have been a fairly rough one. Muchnick is a muckraker of the dirt sheet era, but he's perhaps been right to sometimes push the idea that Benoit was an abusive person longer than the murder timeline makes us think (even Sandra says this)

Yeah, the Vice doc also made brief reference to William Regal seemingly suspecting right away that something darker might have happened based on him living nearby & knowing their relationship was troubled.

Yeah, that guy is fairly astute, he's walked a dark and self-destructive path himself
