the fascinating thing about benoit, and snowden and cage both made this point, is that, CTE or no, he isn't some arguable MeToo case that people can rally behind (Woody Allen), he was pretty abusive for a half-decade or so and then committed a double homicide.

i wrote about dying for workrate in my
@ringer obit of "dynamite kid" billington, a much better wrestlerhttps://www.theringer.com/2018/12/6/18129033/dynamite-kid-obituary-tom-billington-british-bulldogs …Show this thread -
the one benoit match i really loved was the pillman show match against william regal, but that was because it was all about regal's redemption (he was fit and crisp again), not so much benoit https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4t3cvn (danny cage says the benoit matches are about the other guys)

that was a key takeaway here: @RevSw1m noted the matches were very realistic, and
@TheDannyCage emphasized that they're still important and valid, because other people, doing good work, are in themShow this thread

A very well-written piece. While I’ve never thought Benoit’s work needed to be “celebrated” again, I’ve felt like it was ok to point out this was a once-redeemable and decent person, which made it an even sadder tragedy.(1)

(2)I know ppl often try to rationalize how a person became a murderer, so I don’t want to make too many excuses for him. It just always seemed like this was a complex story, and the documentary sort of confirms that, while still leaving unanswered questions.

This still is one of the darkest and most disappointing stories ever. So many wrestling fans looked up to him and his matches. For it to all end like that was just -- sad. Thank you for doing the work, always. I love to see it.

yeah, it's a bad look as far as going out, and CTE or no, a half-decade trajectory towards that kind of bitter end is a rough one, for sure
