Including me. Though I don't know if I used the term "fear-mongering."

Aside from the daycare function -- the primary function -- you can shut it down forever with minimal damage done. I didn't attend any form of school during the period that would have covered third through eighth grade, just lived like a "lily of the valley"

Shutting down schools and imposing WFM for everyone does have high social costs. It's not sustainable forever and will reduce productivity, so it's not suitable forever. It's hard on kids too when a boy who loves to play basketball or wrestle or a girl who loves to dance can't.

you have it backwards. the system that requires daycare for children to ensure 'dual income households' (or single parent ones) is what is not sustainable. this was already obvious to anyone who noticed the panda-like levels of reproduction inside it

You're a clown man. The idea a kid can't train or work on a hobby that he looks forward to every single day is a serious tax on society. We don't live to be stuck at home everyday. Anyone arguing that lacks social skills.

Oliver is talking about using schools as daycare, you are talking about social distancing. If you don't understand the difference you don't have any business condescending to someone else.

The biggest value of public schools is to ensure things like a proper vaccine schedule.

Instead, we get kids who don't go in private school end up getting measles outbreaks in the 21st century. It's an absolute embarrassment to the country. Most average citizens are idiots who will let crazy things happen to their kids if they're not in public schools.

I don't think the average citizen is, but we were socialized in a way that will eventually produce nothing but those types of idiots. This isn't a problem with public schools, but 'family planning' that presupposes parenting can be offloaded without any consequences

I have more faith in people than that. Like I said, I had no public school exposure for five years, and very limited instruction during that time, but my dad still taught me how to wrestle, so that by the time I entered high school, I was able to do that reasonably well.

We were farm/rural people, and this was fairly common (my brother skipped his junior and senior year of high school to work at my dad's car dealership). But we were all vaccinated, etc.
