This school year is shot and most districts won't open again until the fall. Might as well accept that reality now and plan for it accordingly.https://twitter.com/PhillyInquirer/status/1242895788772069376 …

Including me. Though I don't know if I used the term "fear-mongering."

Aside from the daycare function -- the primary function -- you can shut it down forever with minimal damage done. I didn't attend any form of school during the period that would have covered third through eighth grade, just lived like a "lily of the valley"

Shutting down schools and imposing WFM for everyone does have high social costs. It's not sustainable forever and will reduce productivity, so it's not suitable forever. It's hard on kids too when a boy who loves to play basketball or wrestle or a girl who loves to dance can't.

you have it backwards. the system that requires daycare for children to ensure 'dual income households' (or single parent ones) is what is not sustainable. this was already obvious to anyone who noticed the panda-like levels of reproduction inside it

yeah, you can likely achieve significant cost savings regarding government capacity if you reorient around a single-income consumption lifestyle. all that excess money circulating was great for the "market," but it has drawbacks

Not really. Most nurses are women. Many biology and virology researchers are women. They're still going to work cuz they have to. In times like this, we *need* them to be working.
