I mean, I honestly think part of the fear here comes from our elite class, which realizes they've constructed a society, especially in the gentrified slums that are the "true cities," that is basically the facade of a grand mansion with people camped out behind it
they realize in their bones that the country itself is a kind of skeleton, a place where every supply cupboard is bare because even the nuclear bombs are now "just-in-time-delivery" eligible. it's bizarre. like they're keeping a civil unrest tempest in a fancy teapot
