and the thing is: they're not even good at it! but people who fancy themselves "smart" (the daily show/bill nye/etc. all assume their audience is in this category) are such easy marks. they're the easiest marks in the whole world. only the actual take scammers are easier to scam

You don’t gotta be good if they are impressed with the suit you have on and the car you are driving. If the megaphone is loud and never squeals with feedback, you don’t have to be compelling but you do have to be the only game they think is in town.
