Sure, some people like to help out for short-term gain, and others like to be seen signaling virtue, but at the end of the day, you shouldn't be surprised when your dad claims he's going to a meeting to bail out the family business and instead goes to NYC with his mistress

If there was any lesson to be drawn from my father's life, it was that most people will act against your long term interest (and theirs too) and you cannot blame them and you cannot change this. He used to say it was easier to blow up the whole planet than change even one mind
