this sort of bizarre individualism is a big part of how neoliberalism co-opts identity politics imho; we're asked to prop up individuals who effectively are conservatives but have some aspect of a marginalized identity not surprisingly, this makes people suspicious of idpol!

That really is the problem. The ideas have validity, of course, but not when wielded by people who behave like bougie gatekeepers and are using it to protect themselves not just from partisan enemies but people within their sub-class who may take their slots
