All the failed ultimate forms on that show break my heart. How many times did Piccolo think he had turned the corner? And yet he never did. He was a loser. Even when he had the upper hand, he didn't

Only the original Piccolo, the King, had the true hate needed to get the job done. But he lacked the strength. The gender-less Nameks had no "t," unlike the Saiyans, a race of pure testosterone

piccolo only competitive until halfway thru the cell saga (like all non-saiyan good guys). his transformed states following fusions w nail & kami are dispensed with quick, it’s true. and the gender dynamics, or lack thereof, of namekians is a whole other potential area of study

As you alluded to, Ralph, they have developed extrinsic "balls" (testes?) that grant them temporary omnipotence, but they have little interest in using them

Toriyama missed nothing. Even his throwaway humor is fraught with meaning. What is the horndog nosebleed of Roshi, which recurs throughout the series, but a commentary on the way that toxic masculinity bleeds us all dry?

Sure, it's a manga trope, but never mind that. And why is Roshi only jacked when "hulking up?" Why is he pitiful and withered at all other times?

because he is otherwise horny. his mentee, who quickly surpasses him, goku, is “pure of heart,” able to ride the nimbus cloud, or in other words... not horny (a state

that's right. goku maintains a state of pure, messianic strength because he has no weaknesses. his strength is an absence of weakness. he fills himself with pure strength. all of the other, weaker characters have a flaw. goku has no flaws. he has no redeeming qualities either

vegeta has the "genetic potential" for the greatest strength, but he doesn't so much desire strength as to be the strongest. he is weighed down by his family's legacy of strength.

gohan, imbued with "hybrid vigor," theoretically ought to contain the greatest potential for strength. but he is too self-aware and intelligent. he grows up to be a kind of peter parker. a real sadsack. piccolo whips his ass in the expanded canon to show him how he's fallen
