I think the schools know the essays are ghostwritten.

I was always fine with that as a prof. My dream was to receive a ghostwritten paper that I'd written for another student that had made the rounds and wound up back with me. I'd have given it an "A" of course

In the single year I graded papers, I kept them all in a pile together and let it get as high as I could before tackling them. Then only with sports on TV.

I gave all papers, even dissertations, a minimum of 30 seconds review and a maximum of 360. I scribbled a few notes ("keep going in this direction," "nice effort") then put a big fat red "A" or "pass" on there. My former students on here can attest to this practice
