I gave all papers, even dissertations, a minimum of 30 seconds review and a maximum of 360. I scribbled a few notes ("keep going in this direction," "nice effort") then put a big fat red "A" or "pass" on there. My former students on here can attest to this practice

I have one minor regret I must confess. I gave one girl in my class a 95 every time without hardly reading her papers because she wore a 49ers shirt to class one day. Later she said that made her change her major.
