Mostly your selections are influenced by bromides/cliches/slogans, family pressure, and in-group preferences. That’s it. Few people including the candidates vote policy outside of vague “feelings” they have, except for the political junkies, to whom this is everything

The two parties function as pressure-release valves for one another. Tied of Coke? Drink Pepsi! It’s a little less rough on the tongue. A monarch or permanent head of state is at greater risk, since anger can be concentrated at them and they’ll wind up like Charles I

BUT “policy” is good if you can fundraise off it or get one of those Andrew Yang-type commentary slots based on it. There’s a man who raised his basic income and basic brand visibility by doing the work. You love to see it

If you’ve ever worked in a huge company, you know that the vast middle echelon of that beast is set up to function entirely on mediocre or distracted work. So is the government. People move up and down, get promotions, entirely to “hit” various staffing goals the company has
