When I scan a headline, I immediately start Doing the Work. First I feel my way to a take. Then I come up with a take on that take. I follow those takes en route to the next dozen takes, looking at all the things that could prove incendiary or Problematic. I’m here for it
I especially like when two legendary take figures, both well regarded for Doing the Work, end up jousting over the takes like knights of old. Log onto Twitter and do the work. Toss a few think pieces stripped of nuance or thought onto the various media sites. You love to see it
The one thing I will refuse to do is read the original story, or anything about it. I want my takes as pure as new-fallen snow. I want my takes to exist only in reference to the other takes I remember “feeling” as I watched the tweet deck fly by while I was Doing the Work
