Let me lay another true take on you: the people who claim to be real "bookworms," who have their fingers on the pulse of the Work Being Done Now (by the Important New Authors), probably aren't reading anything. Not even reviews. They just "feel" how the book is being received

there is absolutely no way to read all the Important New Books unless you're a paid book reviewer or unemployed
If you're a paid reviewer ($50), your go-to joke becomes "read it? I haven't even reviewed it yet!" And 90% of those reviews are based on a skim of the introduction combined with a decision either to follow the consensus or to buck it in order to generate a little controversy
