I think my biggest challenge as a culture writer, as a pop culture writer, is that I do not like any of it and exist mostly outside of it + the media world that reports on it. An "authentic voice" says the Times-Picayune. "A natural man in the proud Hillbilly Elegy tradition."
I don't let that stop me from Doing the Work, though. I study and feel the takes like they're my spouse and I'm at marital counseling with these takes. I feel the takes in my heart, in my soul, in my marrow. All the takes. All the takes but one
