most deep-seated political positions arise from vestigial "home team" partisanship that, at base, is no more/less rational than rooting for the Baltimore Ravens or Dallas Cowboys. even subsequent shifts to the "alt-right" or "wokecialism" or "brocialism" have their roots in this
which is perfectly fine. "___ party provides a patronage-type job to my parents" is about as advanced as this stuff gets, when you cut it down to the base. "____ party did more for me on this one specific thing." and it doesn't have to be economic.
and much of the cooler, "aesthetic kid" stuff is just your standard youth (or, in our age of arrested development, late thirtysomething) reaction to seeming parental uncoolness, since our elders long since became true single-issue voters in humphrey bogart-esque highwater dockers
